Customs Intelligence confiscates big cache of plastic dana, involving tax evasion of Rs 12 billion

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has made a record seizure of “plastic dana” during the current fiscal year, it is learnt.

According to details, on the directives of Director-Customs Intelligence Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, a team of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence was constituted headed by the Deputy Director Muhammad Azam Khan.

The team on a tip-off kept strict surveillance at Karachi-Sukkur border and signaled a truck to stop recovered a large quantity of “plastic dana” from the upper floor of the truck.

On the occasion, Superintendent of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence Wilayat Shah confiscated the smuggled plastic dana.

The Deputy Director Muhammad Azam Khan informed Customs Today that the Customs team made one of the biggest haul in the shape of plastic dana during the current year. The consignment carried a tax evasion of around Rs 12 billion.

Responding to a query, Deputy Director Azam Khan said that the seizure report of the impounded plastic dana consignment has been prepared and would be forwarded to the legal forum in next few days.

Deputy Director, Directorate of Customs Intelligence further said that the Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Asif Marghoob Siddiqui has clear directives in connection with curbing smuggling activities at Karachi borders.

Replying to another query, the Deputy Director further said that the authorities concerned are attempting to thread out the importer of the said smuggled consignment of plastic dana and also started investigation into the case.
