Spices exports increase by 14.37% to $47.30m in 8 months

ISLAMABAD: The export of various spices from the country increased by 14.37 percent to $47.304 million during the first eight months (July-February) of ongoing fiscal year as compared to $41.362 million during the corresponding period of last year.

According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the exports of spices witness increase of 16.76 percent in February 2016 on year-on-year as compared to the exports of February 205. The exports of spices during February 2016 were recorded at $5.859 million compared to the exports of $5.018 million in February 2015.

On month-on-month basis, the exports of spices declined by 7.21 percent during February 2016 when compared to the exports of $6.314 million in January 2015, the data revealed.

Meanwhile, the overall food exports during July-February (2015-16) were recorded at $2.654 billion compared to the exports of $2.969 billion in July-February (2014-15). However, the food exports on year-on-year basis witnessed increase of 0.57 percent during February 2016 as compared to the corresponding month of the last year.

The food exports during February 2016 were recorded at $423.270 million compared to the exports of $420.891 million during February 2015. The overall trade deficit during first 8 months (July-February), 2015-16 increased by 4.22 percent as the exports decreased by 13.26 while the imports witnessed a slight decrease of 4.95 percent as compared to July-February (2014-15).
