Customs recovers Rs 600,000 from owner of vehicle cleared under amnesty scheme ‏

MULTAN: The recovery branch of the Customs Collectorate has recovered Rs 600,000 outstanding taxes from a defaulter who cleared his vehicle under tax amnesty scheme of 2000.

Sources said that the Customs served many notices to the owner Laiq Din who is resident of Rahim Yar Khan for payment of his outstanding dues. The defaulter had cleared his vehicle under tax amnesty scheme of the government launched in 2002. It is pertinent to mention here that the said importer had dodged the Customs authorities by clearing his Hiace van under tax amnesty scheme.

It  was revealed during the audit of the Customs that the owner had misguided the Customs authorities and presented fake documents for the clearance of the imported vehicle.

The recovery branch served a couple of notices to Laiq Din for payment of outstanding taxes worth Rs 600,000 but the owner had not responded to any notice in this regard .

On the directions of the Customs authorities, the ASO captured the vehicle bearing registration number of MNX 865 from Rahim Yar Khan. After the detention of the vehicle, the owner deposited the outstanding amount to the Multan Customs for the release of vehicle.

The Multan Customs has released the Hiace Van after the recovery of the outstanding charges .
