LAHORE: China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CEPC) will help revamp transport sector, said Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique.

He was addressing a seminar on “Public-Private Partnership in Development of Transport Infrastructure”, jointly organised by Pakistan Railways and Charted Institute of Logistic and Transport Pakistan. The minister asked the opposition parties for not making the CPEC controversial.

Saad highlighted the importance of public-private partnership for the development of transport sector. He asked the businessmen to come forward in this field.

Saying the railways’ infrastructure and rolling stock had great room for development and the Railways could not focus on their improvement due to lack of resources, he invited the private sector to invest in the field.

Seeking cooperation of the private sector, the minister offered them opportunities to invest on various routes. He also expressed his resolve to promote regional cooperation in transport sector.

“The Iranian investors can be pursued to invest in Pakistan after withdrawal of economic sanctions from the UN. We must approach them (Iranian) before Indians. Iran and Pakistan should start joint project for the economic development of both countries,” the minister said.
