Customs Court to hear bail plea of currency smuggler in next week

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned the bail plea of an accused who was arrested while trying to smuggle Rs 5.2 million to another country.

The accused is on judicial remand of 14 days which was ordered by the court after compilation of physical remand.

Following information, the customs officials deployed at the Lahore airport intercepted Tahir Bharwana, son of Sikandar Hayat Bharwana, when he was going abroad.

The officials checked his luggage and recovered foreign currency, including $7,135 and 16,000 Bahraini dinars, which he intended to smuggle to another country. The total worth of recovered currency was over Rs 5.2 million that is a violation of the customs laws.

The Custom team arrested the accused and registered a case against him under Section 2 (s), 16, 139, 156, (17), 87 (70), and 178 of Customs Act of Pakistan, 1969, while a FIR registered against him at Lahore Customs Investigation and Prosecution.

Later, he was produced before the court and now he is on judicial remand. The accused filed a bail plea that has been postponed until next week.
