Customs Court adjourns bail plea filed by alleged tax evader

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned the bail plea filed by a suspect allegedly involved in tax evasion of Rs 34 million.

The Lahore Customs Intelligence arrested Hassan Javed, director of a foam manufacturing company, on the charges of sales tax evasion. The Customs Intelligence checked his company’s record and found a difference of Rs 34 million in sales tax statements.

An FIR was registered against him under Section 2 (37) of Sales Tax Act, 1990 and a Customs team presented him before the court on February 25 and got his physical remand for 10 days.

The director of the company was again produced before the court on March 4 when he was sent on judicial remand.

Now, the accused filed a post-arrest bail plea, which has been adjourned until the next week.
