MINSK: In January-February 2016 Belarus’ merchandise import dropped by 14.5% from January-February 2015, BelTA learned from the website of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus. In money terms Belarus’ merchandise import totaled $3.5 billion in the first two months of the year, with export down by 20% to $3.19 billion.
Belarus’ overall merchandise trade went down by 17.2% to reach $6.774 billion. The deficit of Belarus’ merchandise trade reached $394.2 million. Belarus’ trade with the CIS states amounted to $3.871 billion, 11.2% down. Export shrank by 8% to $1.679 billion, with import 13.5% down to $2.192 billion. Belarus’ trade with non-CIS states amounted to $2.903 billion, 24% down.
Export plunged by 30.1% to $1.511 billion, with import 15.9% down to $1.392 billion. The surplus of Belarus’ merchandise trade with non-CIS states stood at $118.9 million. Belarus-EU trade reached $1.798 billion, 78% as against the same period of last year. Export dropped by 26.6% to $1,117.9 million. Import went down by 12.9% to slightly more than $680 million. The surplus of Belarus’ merchandise trade with the European Union was close to $437.3 million.
