ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is striving to control corruption and apprehend the corrupt elements through proper awareness campaign.
The NAB has joined hands with different organizations including Motorways Police to display advertisement board at various points with Say No to Corruption at Motorway (M1, M2, M3), distribution of pamphlets, hand bills and stickers having anti-corruption messages to vehicles plying on motorways.
Under the campaign, the Bureau conducted TV talk shows, radio programmes, walks, lectures, seminars, workshops, essay writing competitions, declamation contests and poster/painting competitions.
As per official information, the Bureau also arranged character building of future generation through establishment of Character Building Societies (CBS) at schools, colleges and universities level across the country.
The other steps taken under awareness campaign were publication of procedure for lodging a complaint in NAB on Bill Board, installation of permanent bill boards carrying anti-corruption slogans at prominent points, printing NAB’s message on utility bills, dissemination of anti-corruption messages through mobile phone messaging in addition to electronic media and holding of seminars in a year for different segments of societies, with active participation of NGOs and UN offices to ensure greater visibility and effectiveness.
The Bureau has also been engaging different governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations in fight against corruption and in this context took steps including signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Higher Education Commission (HEC) for creating awareness amongst students of various universities and collaborations with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pakistan Hockey Federation, Pakistan Television (PTV), PTA, PIA, SNGPL, IESCO and Banks to display and print NAB slogan “Say No to Corruption” from their platform.
The generic and sector specific awareness campaigns was also initiated with focus on warning public against possible financial scams, fake housing societies, unrecognized education institutions etc.
The other step was anti-corruption themes in National Education Curriculum for classes 1 to 12. The Bureau under Prevention Regime has established prevention committees to review rules and regulations of Federal as well as Provincial Departments so as to suggest doable recommendations in coordination with departments concerned.
