Govt lifts gas moratorium on high-rise residential buildings

KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the Sui Northern Gas Company Limited (SNGCL) have announced to lift gas moratorium on high-rise residential buildings.

The announcement made on the directives of Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, after approval of summary by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In this regard, a delegation of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) led by its Chairman Hanif Gohar, Asif Sumsum, Fayaz Ilyas, Riaz Razzak and Anwar met SSGC Managing Director Khalid Rehman at SSGC Head Office. Senior officials of SSGC including Dr Aijaz and Afeef Ahmed were also present during the meeting.

The ABAD was demanding the government to provide gas connections to high-rise buildings since last five years. Around 380 buildings across the country were lacking gas connections, with more than 80 percent of these buildings in the port city.

The delegation apprised the MD of the hardships faced by general public due to unavailability of gas connections in residential units they had purchased a long time ago.
