Nawaz directs NEPRA to cut power rate by Re 46/unit, rejects 30pc hike in gas tarrif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered a 46-paisa per unit reduction in power tariff.
The federal ministry of water and power said that the reduction would be made under the monthly fuel adjustment head for the month of October. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority will issue a notification in this regard.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has rejected proposal of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for increase in gas price. This was stated by the prime minister’s spokesman Dr. Musadik Malik while briefing newsmen here the other day.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif rejected a proposal to increase gas tariff for the time being. Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Secretary Petroleum Abid Saeed had given a presentation last week to the prime minister on the proposed gas price increase, an official of the PM Secretariat said here the other day. The presentation suggested different options that included increasing gas rates by 5 per cent for domestic consumers and 30pc for other consumer categories. The prime minister was informed that Rs50 billion was required to be generated for gas companies – Rs33bn for the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and Rs17bn for the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited.
