Customs detains huge quantity of sulpuric acid worth Rs 12m‏

MULTAN: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized a huge quantity of sulphuric acid in an operation on suspicion of smuggling.

Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Naveed Ur Rehman received information about the movement of goods containing various chemicals. The Customs deployed staff to foil any attempt of smuggling near Dera Ghazi Khan and tribal areas.

The Customs has acted timely to intercept a truck and recovered 115 drums with of sulphuric acid.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation asked the driver to provide the legal import of the sulphuric acid and detained the drums. The import documents are being verified by the officials concerned.

Sources told Customs Today that importer claimed that sulphuric acid will be processed in the manufacturing of the domestic shampoo and the Customs Intelligence has started verification of the acid. Customs have also asked owner to present NOC which allows them for the import of the said chemicals.

Customs is trying to interrogate about the usage of chemical in the domestic as it is also unsafe for the human beings in raw form. Now Customs Intelligence has forwarded samples of chemicals for laboratory test to confirm its ingredients. The value of the detained sulphuric acid is almost Rs 12 million.
