KOLKATA: The Border Security Force (BSF), on Monday, seized gold biscuits worth Rs 33.33 lakh near the Indo-Bangladesh border. A woman was apprehended with the gold and taken into custody by the customs department. “On Monday, specific information was received by troops of the 76Bn BSF regarding smuggling of gold near Border Outpost Tarali in North 24-Parganas.

On receiving this information, a joint operation was planned in collaboration with the customs. Women constables of the BSF were involved in the operation. Intelligence inputs suggested that the smuggler would be traveling in a bus with the gold. Around 10.25 am, a bus was stopped and searched near the Tentulia Bridge. A woman passenger was found to be behaving in a suspicious manner and was searched by the women constables. Her bag contained 10 gold biscuits wrapped in plastic. They weighed nearly 1164.78 grams,” a senior BSF officer said.
