LAREDO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Laredo Port of Entry this weekend encountered a traveler with aloe vera juice laced with a not-so-healthy additive, nearly 10 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine.
“Our frontline CBP officers have seen it all, nevertheless it is still amazing and unnerving to see to what depths smuggling organizations would go, to allegedly attempt to move their poisonous merchandise within a health product,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.
The seizure occurred on April 9 at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge. A CBP officer referred a Mexican taxicab carrying a 22-year-old male U.S. citizen passenger for a secondary inspection. CBP officers conducted a thorough examination and discovered 9.7 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine in aloe vera bottles within his luggage and two packages under his clothing containing an additional 1.4 pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The narcotics carry a combined estimated street value of $155,556.
CBP officers turned the taxicab passenger over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
