Customs Court extends judicial remand of alleged gold smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended the judicial remand of Muhammad Rizwan, allegedly involved in smuggling of gold worth Rs 30 million.

Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan on Thursday heard the case and ordered to extend the remand for another further 14 days. The Customs Court in previous hearing asked the investigation team to speed up the investigation process to conclude the case.

The suspect was apprehended by the Customs Preventive officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, when he was trying to smuggle seven kilogram of gold abroad in November 2015. Later, the accused was presented before the court to get physical remand for interrogation, which was granted.

After the end of physical remand, he was sent on judicial remand, which now again has been extended.

It is also learnt here that customs is trying to trace his network involved in smuggling of gold in order to make their black money into white.
