During the hearing, standing counsel requested for some time to take instructions. The court also issued notice to officer of Regional Tax Office (RTO) Inland Revenue (IR), Audit & Enforcement, Zone-IV for May 3, 2016.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that petitioner is filing his annual income tax returns in accordance with the law; however it received a notice on February 29, 2016 for payment of Rs. 1,994,111. In the said notice, the petitioner was asked to pay above amount before March 28, 2016.

The petitioner’s counsel said that he filed an appeal before authority concerned which is still pending but the petitioner is being harassed by the respondents.

The counsel requested the SHC to suspend the impugned demand notice and restrain the respondents for taking the coercive action against the petitioner.
