Punjab govt announces to procure 4m metric tonnes wheat

LAHORE: The Punjab government will procure four million metric tonnes wheat from farmers and has established 376 wheat procurement centres throughout the province.

This was stated by Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin during his visit to wheat procurement centre in Sialkot. Members Provincial Assembly Mansha Ullah Butt, Chaudhry Muhammad Ikram, Mohsin Ashraf, Aqib Bajwa, Sialkot DCO Dr Asif Tufail and ADC Umer Saif Chatha were also present on the occasion.

The minister directed DFC Rohail Butt to ensure facilities to the cultivators at wheat procurement centres. He said that no irregularity or corruption will be tolerated in wheat procurement and disciplinary action will be taken against the officials displaying negligence in this regard.

Bilal said that the government has increased support price of wheat from Rs 1200 to Rs 1300 per maund while delivery charges will be paid at the rate of nine rupees per maund to the farmers. He said that wheat will not be procured from any middleman or dealer.
