Customs Court approves judicial remand of accused involved in currency smuggling

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved 14 days judicial remand of an accused who was on physical remand in customs custody.

According to details, an accused Sarfraz Ahmad was arrested by Customs authorities after investigation from another accused Qaisar Iqbal.

Qaisar Iqbal during investigation revealed that money he was trying to smuggle was belongs to Sarfraz Ahmad.

Customs investigation and prosecution Sialkot produced him before the customs court of Lahore, to get physical remand for investigations. On completion of physical remand he was again produced before the court where court has sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Sarfraz Ahmad was arrested in a connection with Qaiser Iqbal who was booked from airport while making an attempt to smuggle huge amount of foreign currency from Pakistan to a Gulf state.  He was trying to fly through Sharjah bound flight of Airblue PA-410.

During checking of his luggage customs officials found US dollars, Euros and UK pounds that were equal to Rs 22 million. A case under section 156, (1), (68), (70), 157, 178 of Pakistan Customs Act 1969 was registered against him.

Now the Judge of customs court Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan has approved his fourteen days judicial remand.
