HARARE: Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba has called on Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) to intensify inspection of fresh fruits imported from South Africa by major chain stores to ensure that they are of good quality.
Mr Mwamba said here yesterday that reports that some fruits imported from South Africa by some chain stores in Zambia are rotten are disturbing because South Africa has very high standards on its exports.
He was responding to concerns by former Zambian High Commissioner to South Africa Leslie Mbula, who appealed to the mission to bring the issue to the attention of South African authorities so that measures can be taken to curb the alleged export of rotten fresh fruits to Zambia.
