LAHORE: Following better yield of tomatoes in country, the import of the Indian tomatoes through Wagah border has been suspended for a specific time period.
Customs officials said that Pakistan was importing average 120 trucks per day from India, adding that now it reached zero. They said that Pakistan Customs collected duty/taxes on the import of tomatoes that also cut down with the halt of import.
The import will be restored at the end of May, 2016 in order to meet the local consumption during the holy month Ramazan, the officials said.
In March, the rate of tomatoes was increased to Rs 80 to 100 per kilogram in local market but the rates went down to Rs 40/kg after importing tomatoes from India.
