BUDAPEST: A delegation of Hungarian officials is in Pakistan to explore ways to boost economic ties, a foreign ministry official said on Tuesday.
Hungary’s exports to Pakistan dropped last year by an annual 16.5 percent, and now the government aims to reverse this trend, state secretary Levente Magyar told public television M1. Magyar had talks in Islamabad with Khurram Dastgir Khan, Pakistan’s trade minister, and Syed Tariq Fatemi, special advisor to the country’s prime minister.
Hungarian companies have excellent business cooperation prospects in agriculture, the energy sector and water management, Magyar said. The delegation also held talks with local business representatives, he added.
Wednesday’s schedule includes inaugurating the Khushal Garh Bridge over the River Indus. Much of the construction costs was covered by Hungarian oil and gas company MOL group’s branch in Pakistan, Magyar said. MOL is Hungary’s biggest Pakistan operation with a 2 billion dollar investment, and one of the largest employers in the regions it operates in.
