Exporters from SME sector being trained to enhance export: Dastgir

ISLAMABAD: In order to boost Pakistan’s exports, Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that the government is selecting exporters from the SME sector to train them and graduate them to next level.

“There is a need for a handholding of the prospective SME exporters in order to enable them to graduate to the next level,” he said, while talking to a delegation of technical experts from the Center for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) based in The Hague, Netherlands.

CBI is working in Pakistan since 2008, and is engaged in developing its new five-year plan for Pakistan, while a team of technical experts from Netherlands is currently visiting Pakistan to seek ground-level information in order to provide input for the next plan.

The minister asked the CBI experts to assist Pakistani entrepreneurs in developing their products through Export Coaching Programmes, primarily in fruits and vegetables sector, floriculture, fisheries, specific areas of the textile sector and light engineering, according to GSP Plus requirements.

He also asked them to especially emphasise on exporting, institutional development and human resource development in the next plan.
