LHC acquits IR ex-additional commissioner in illegal assets case

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has acquitted the Inland Revenue (IR) ex-additional commissioner Muhammad Iqbal in an illegal assets case by suspending orders of 10 years jail sentenced by an accountability court.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa heard the case in which the counsel for appellant Amjad Pervaiz argud that National Accountability Court (NAB) filed the reference of illegal assets worth Rs 30 million in the accountability court, adding that the court announced ten years prison for his client despite lack of evidence. He pleaded the court to declare the verdict as null and void.

The prosecution argued that the accountability court announced verdict on merit and asked the court to reject the acquittal plea.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court suspended the punishment and acquitted the former additional collector.
