Malaysian police seize RM96m worth of drugs seized this year

KUALA LIMPUR: A total of RM96.94 million worth of drugs were seized by the police’s Narcotics Investigation Department between January and April 26 this year.

In addition, 68,636 people were arrested for various drug offences in the same period this year. Narcotics Investigation Department deputy director Datuk Pahlawan Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said the total drugs seized comprised synthetic and traditional drugs.

For synthetic drugs, police seized 1053.19kg of syabu, 131,234 ecstacy pills, 609,461 Yaba pills and 548,690 Eramin 5 pills. The department also seized 1,759kg of cannabis and 110.33kg of heroin. Dzuraidi said in the first four month, police had arrested 68,636 people for various drug offences. “A total of 6,853 people were arrested for supplying drugs, 15,707 for possession while the remaining 45,976 people tested positive for drugs. “Out of the number, 3,044 people were foreigners,” he said. To date, a total of RM46.36 million properties were seized.
