DP World Container scam: FBR issues notices for recovery of penalty

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued final notices to parties for payment of penalty in DP World scam. Notices are issued to Qasim International Terminal Karachi, M/s Nexus Trading Shershah Road Shadbagh Lahore, two partners of clearing company, M/s NJ International — Naila Jamal wife of Jamal Durrani — and Jamal Durrani son of Javed Durrani, and Naeem Qureshi son of Mohammad Rustam.

Sources informed Customs Today that these notices were issued by Assistant Collector (Recovery) Hina Gill. In the orders, the assistant collector asked them to clear the amount of imposed penalty at the earliest.

It is necessary to mention here that customs authorities issued recovery notices to those persons who already won verdict in their favour by Customs Appellate Tribunal. All these persons already approached the Sindh High Court and the Supreme Court. The courts have already passed their judgments in favor of these persons but despite clear cut instructions from the courts, the customs authorities issued them final notices for tax recovery. All the above mentioned persons have to pay penalty imposed on them except Shakoor Alam.
