SHC directs Customs Court to decide bail plea of suspect as per law

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Customs Court to decide the bail application of Ali Qureshi, who is facing charges of smuggling narcotics in accordance with the law

While hearing an application of the suspect, a two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, also declined the request for the transfer of the case to another court.

During the hearing, the counsel for the applicant submitted that accused has trust and faith on the court. Neither the accused nor the counsel or any one on their behalf had ever attempted to influence the judge of the custom court,” the applicant added.

Earlier, the counsel for the applicant stated that an FIR No 3/2016 R and D (East ) was lodged by the customs authority against the accused on January 11, 2016 under customs and CNS acts. The applicant filed bail application before customs court but according to the judge, some persons tried to influenced him for granting the remand of to the accused. Therefore, the judge wrote a letter to the secretary of law and justice division Islamabad which replied that the matter would be referred to the SHC for transfer of case to another court. The counsel pleaded the SHC to transfer the above matter to other court.
