FBR freezes bank accounts of KMC, DMCs for non-payment of income tax

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue-FBR has frozen the bank accounts of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) due to non-payment of income tax during the last two years, it is learnt.

According to the sources, the action has been taken by the FBR authorities without serving any notice or intimation to them.

The sources further said that the salaries of the KMC and DMCs employees have been affected due to the said development by the FBR.

Sources said that DMC-West having outstanding amount of Rs270million in share of income tax, DMC-Central having outstanding amount of Rs160.5million, while DMC-South and DMC-Malir having outstanding amount of Rs230million and Rs100million respectively.

Furthermore, the DMC-East and DMC-Korangi having outstanding amount of Rs20million each in share of income tax.

The KMC sources informed Customs Today that the employees’ salaries and fuel charges are exempted from income tax.
