WASHINGTON: Notebook ODMs Compal Electronics, Wistron and Inventec have announced their shipments for April with all seeing on-month drop in notebook shipments.
Compal shipped 1.9 million notebooks in April, down 45.71% on month from 3.5 million units in March. Compal expects its second-quarter results to be better than the first and June will be a key month, with April being the worst of the second quarter. Notebook brand vendors were busy clearing their inventory in April, and reduced their orders to Compal dramatically, some market watchers noted.
Wistron shipped 1.2 million notebooks in April, down 400,000 units from March. Desktop shipments were 900,000 units, server shipments were 150,000 and LCD monitor shipments were 550,000 units. Wistron expects its notebook shipments to achieve on-month growths in May and June, but non-notebook products will mostly see their shipment levels stay levels similar to those of April. Wistron’s desktop shipments are expected to enjoy shipment growth in June.
Orders for next-generation iPhone devices are expected to start benefiting Wistron’s revenues in the second half, industry sources said. Inventec shipped 1.2 million mobile devices and all-in-one PCs in April, down from 1.7 million units in March. Thanks to its strong server shipments, Inventec’s April revenues grew 9.36% from the same quarter a year ago.
