RIYADH: Saudi border customs inspectors seized nearly 10 million cigarettes and 1.5 million tobacco bags which dealers tried separately to smuggle into the Gulf Kingdom.

Nearly 600,000 tobacco bags were found in a shipment recorded as “soap powder” while the others were seized in four other trucks coming through Albataha border with the UAE, according to Sabq newspaper. It quoted customs director Abdul Rahman Al Muhana as saying the dealers tried to smuggle those large quantities to avert paying customs tariffs.
