DUBAI: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and London-based Clyde & Co. LLP held a professional seminar in the chamber’s auditorium recently to illuminate details behind three recent UAE ministerial decrees and their impact on federal laws .
Titled “Latest Developments in the UAE Labor Law,” the event sought to educate constituents about how the Ministry of Labor’s decrees can affect private sector employment. Dozens of Dubai chamber members, lawyers and legal consultants, investors, advisers, human resources professionals, corporate counsels, general managers and business owners attended the seminar.
Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director of Legal Services Jehad Kazim spoke about the UAE’s expanding job market in her welcoming remarks, pointing out the increased need for human resources, recruiting and management. She indicated that the chamber plans to hold regular training events to keep entrepreneurs up to date and support Dubai’s economic growth.
A panel led by Clyde & Co. Employment Partner Rebecca Ford and including Clyde Associate Samantha Ellaby and Employment Associate Ben Brown focused on the legal structure of the decrees, which are said to strive for increased “mutual respect and transparency” in the labor market; the laws’ effects on trade operations; and matters of compliance of which stakeholders need to be aware, such as contractual law. Ford expressed pleasure at the opportunity for her company to team up with the Dubai chamber for the purpose of updating participants about the impact of the new laws on daily employment operations.
