Deputy Collector Ubaid Ullah directs to release goods after payment of duty, fine

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Collector Adjudication Ubaid Ullah has order to release the foreign origin goods after payment of duty and taxes leviable thereon and a fine equivalent to 20 percent of the appraised value of the seized goods

According to details, the deputy collector Preventive seized a huge quantity of smuggled cloth from a truck bearing registration No.K-3217-Peshawar.  A detailed search of the aforementioned vehicle led to the recovery of foreign origin smuggled goods.

The owner of the goods failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession of the goods.

The Customs Preventive seized the goods and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceedings.

During hearing of the case, the owners of the goods said that they were ready to pay duty and taxes leviable thereon. Deputy Collector Adjudication  said in the judgment a lenient view is taken and an option is granted to the rightful owners in terms of Section 181 of the Customs Act, 1969 to redeem the same on payment of duty and taxes leviable thereon plus a redemption fine equivalent to 20 percent of the appraised value of the seized goods in lieu of confiscation.
