Training of customs agents now being held in Faisalabad: Zulfiqar Chaudhary

FAISALABAD: Training sessions for the customs clearing agents are now being held in Faisalabad in order to educate them about the Customs Act and to streamline their workflow.

This was stated by Model Customs Collectorate, Faisalabad Collector Dr Zulfiqar Chaudhary while addressing to an ending ceremony of a training session for the agents at Faisalabad Dry Port Trust (FDPT). Additional Collector Saeed Asad, Deputy Collector Umar Qasmi, Idrees Qureshi, and Licencing Branch Coordinator Waseem Ahmad Qadri, FDPT Chairman Sheikh Mukhtar Ahmad, Vice Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Saeed, customs agents President Rana Safdar Ali, Secretary Muhammad Ismail Sohrwardi and representatives of importers and exporters associations were present on the occasion.

Earlier, the training was organised in Lahore but now it has been arranged in Faisalabad, the collector said. The revenue collection of the dry port was very low that need to be increased by using the port at maximum level for the clearance of consignments, he added. “We try to solve the issues of people at our level instead of launching FIRs,” he said.

Collector Zulfiqar lauded the performance of the officials at the dry port, especially the performance of Deputy Collector Umar Qasmi for settling the issues of traders regarding import and export by adopting effective strategies. He said that rebate claims for the years 2011-2015 have also been allowed.

FDPT Chairman Sheikh Mukhtar said that awareness about customs act to all customs clearing agent was essential. “We should work in collaboration with Faisalabad Customs to develop a friendly atmosphere,” he said.

At the end of the ceremony, Collector Zulfiqar and FDPT Chairman Sheikh Mukhtar Ahmed also distributed as many as 50 Mandatory Clearance Licence Certificates among Faisalabad customs agent for two years 2016-18.
