DUBAI: Dubai Customs has allocated 2.5 per cent of vacancies to the differently-abled throughout the year, including the 128 vacancies announced at the Careers UAE 2016, according to a senior official. The first two days at the Careers UAE 2016 were quite busy at the Dubai Customs stands with 1,000 applications received, 403 of which were submitted in person and 597 others were emailed. Of 40 job seekers interviewed on site, 16 selected and will join for duty soon, mainly with the inspection cadre who will have 11 of them integrated.
Ahmed Obeid Al Falasi, Executive Director of Human Resources, Finance and Administration at Dubai Customs, said, empowering individuals with special needs is in line with a nationwide drive to cater to all segments of the society. “Dubai Customs currently has 10 differently-abled employees in its workforce.”
Khamis Al Muhairi, Recruitment Senior Manager at Dubai Customs HR Department, said both Dubai Customs stands at the fair were like a beehive in the past two days, buzzing with ambitious job seekers. “Interviewing and assessing potential candidates take an average of 20 minutes.” Dubai Customs continues its strategic approach aimed at headhunting and recruiting highly-competent UAE nationals to be part of its workforce, Al Falasi added.
The over 100-year-old department has announced 128 vacancies for Emiratis during the ‘Careers UAE 2016’ job fair held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at Dubai World Trade Centre on May 16-18.
Under the motto ‘Dubai Customs. a Creative Journey for Excellence’, Dubai Customs headed to the three-day nationwide career show with a commitment to the promotion of Emiratisation in the government sector. “We seek to fill some 128 vacancies in various Customs work fields,” he said, adding that a variety of initiatives have be launched for attracting UAE workforce, such as Tomouh (Ambition), Tawteen (Emiratisation) and Tafawoq (Excellence).
