FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 67.6 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 22.2 million during two week of May 2016.
Sources told Customs Today that Additional Director Azmat Tahira received secret information about some smuggling attempts. She formed a team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Rafiq, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Bashir Hussain, sepoys Khalil Ahmad, Muhammad Sajjad, Muhammad Iqbal and Fakhar Abbas who conducted various raids against smugglers.
The intelligence team confiscated foreign origin tyres and tubes, four trailer loaded with old and used iron pipes and screws while the Field investigation unit (FIU), Khushab seized tobacco (Delkor) brand worth Rs 360,000.
The customs intelligance staff confiscated vehicle which were being used for transportation of the smuggled items worth Rs 32,000,000. The officials confiscated the items after the owners failed to show documents regarding their legal import. The seizure reports have been submitted with the adjudication department for further legal process
