WARSAW: Retail sales in Poland increased by 5.5 percent year-on-year in April, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said. The biggest increase in sales, GUS said, was in textiles and shoes, which saw an expansion of 22.6 percent, followed by car sales (19.1 percent) and furniture and domestic appliances (15.2 percent).
“Large fluctuations in the dynamic [of] retail sales, which are dictated by this year’s Easter calendar, changed the magnitude of domestic and foreign orders, as well as the impact on the number of working days and trade in individual months,” Monika Kurtek, chief economist at Bank Pocztowy, told the PAP news agency. “These effects will be more visible in the coming months, since May this year has two long weekends,” Kurtek said.
