Customs Intelligence recovers smuggled scrap worth Rs6.9m

FAISALABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) impounded a trailer laden with 86210 kilograms of smuggled iron scrap worth Rs 6.9 million in joint operation.  Customs team also impounded non duty paid trailer worth Rs80,00,000 involving duty taxes amounting to Rs40,19,976.

Accoding to sources Additional Director Azmat Tahira received secret information about smuggling attempt. A joint team comprsing Customs Intelligence and ASO intercepted a trailer bearing registration no TLG-467 near Toba Tek Singh Bypass for checking.

The officials while checking the vehicle recovered iron pipes seamless of different dia and guage 86210 kilograms. The officials asked the driver namely Rozi Muhammad son of Wali Muhammad to show documents regarding the legal import of the items but he failed to provide any documents.

The officials impounded the trailer along with scrap under the prevailing customs laws, besides arresting the accused driver.

Customs Intelligence Additional Director Azmat Tahira said that a trailer laden with scrap has been impounded under Section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969.
