Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes cigarettes, juice worth Rs 8.4m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated 415 boxes of foreign origin cigarettes and juices worth Rs 8.42 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 7.68 million during a raid.

Following information, the staff of Customs Intelligence with the help of local police raided a warehouse near Douglas Pura Jhang Bazar, Faisalabad. The officials recovered 165 boxes of cigarettes of assorted brands, including Benson, Milano, Napoli and Dunhill as well as 250 crates of Indian juices.

Faisalabad Customs Intelligence Additional Director Azmat Tahira said that search warrant for checking of the said warehouse were issued under Section 162 of the Customs Act, 1969 vide order dated May 20, 2016. She added that the quantity of confiscated smuggled cigarettes and Indian Juices was one of the biggest seizures. The items were seized with the coordination of local police.

The Customs Intelligence lodged FIR No. 03/2016 against the accused owner namely as Muhammad Ali Hassnain and others for violation of Section 2(s), of the Customs Act, 1969.

Deputy Director Riaz Hussain, Superintendent Muhammad Rafique, Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza and other officials participated in the raid.
