LHC suspends single bench’s decision against PRA

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench issued stay order on 193 applications while suspending the single bench’ decision of declaring the formation of Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), tax collection and appointment of chairman as null an void. LHC also issued stay order on 193 further appeals.

A two-member division bench headed by Justice Ayasha A. Malik heard the intra court appeal filed by the PRA. The counsel for PRA Khalid Awais argued that single bench of the court accepted 200 appeals against the revenue authority by exceeding its assigned authorities.

He said that the court has no authority to interfere in the government policy matters, adding that the decision of single bench was also violation of the orders of Supreme Court. The counsel further said that the PRA was come into existence under the law and has authority to collect tax. He appealed the court to null and void the decision of single bench.

After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the decision and also issued stay order. The court also issued notices to Government of Punjab and other parties seeking answers on September 28.
