Customs Court adjourns bail plea of tax evasion’s suspect

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling has adjourned the post-arrest bail plea of an accused who was booked by the authorities in a sales tax evasion case.

Earlier the court sent him to jail on judicial remand after two-day physical remand for his alleged involvement in a sales tax evasion case.

Accused Zunair Ahmad son of Zaka Waleed is allegedly involved in sales tax evasion amounting to millions of rupees. He manufactures household items but he submitted fake tax returns which were not according to his income in order to evade taxes. Sources avoided disclosing the name of his company due to some legal points.

A case was registered against Zunair Ahmad under Sales Tax Ordinance of Pakistan, 1990 and investigations are underway to determine the value of evaded tax. The suspect is a resident of Rachna Block Allama Iqbal Town.
