Finance minister reviews agri proposals for next budget

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has reviewed the budget proposals regarding the development of agriculture sector in the country.

“The meeting discussed various measures aimed at supporting the farming community, including steps to facilitate the provision of various inputs to the farmers with a view to enhance agricultural output,” said a statement issued by Ministry of Finance.

The meeting also had a detailed review of the provision of agriculture credits during the current fiscal year, and discussed ways and means to enhance farmers’ access to the institutions providing such credits.

The finance minister said that the government had taken note of the low cotton crop and would ensure measures to prevent such untoward happenings in future. He said that agriculture was the backbone of the national economy and would always be given due importance.

The minister emphasised close coordination between provincial and federal departments and organisations concerned to streamline policies and measures for the growth of agriculture sector. Senior officials of the Ministries of Finance and National Food Security attended the meeting.
