Pak-Afghan officials hold meeting to discuss cross border smuggling

PESHAWAR: A flag meeting of the Pakistani and Afghan officials held in Torkham to discuss ways and means to take action against smugglers and anti social elements on the borders.

As part of the National Action Plan, the Pakistan border security officials last month restricted Torkham border and no Afghan citizen was permitted to cross into Pakistan without proper documents. However, on the appeal of Afghanistan government the imposition of limitations were extend to May 31.

Assistant Political Agent (APA) Landi Kotal, Rahim Mehsud, Major Tauqeer and Torkham passport tehsildar Ghuncha Gul represented Pakistan while Col. Nisar of Afghan border police, Capt. Nasim and Afghan gate commander  Amin Jan joined talks from Afghanistan side.

The Afghan official requested to Pak counterpart that in the honor of the approaching month of Ramadan (fasting) and in the best interest of Afghan nationals, the policy of legalizing of the border should extend to the 10th day of the Eidul  Fitr. After Ramadan, the Pak government implements restraints suit to it.

The Pakistani officials assured them that their grievance would be convoyed to highups for final approval.

It is be worth mentioned that  Pakistan has started erecting fence along the Pak border side,Torkham to curb illegal infiltration of militants and other anti-social elements social  from Afghanistan that created tension between the two neighboring countries last week caused suspension of  Pak-Afghan border, Torkham for four days.
