WASHINGTON: Darwin Port is to have its quay line extended as part of a $25 million infrastructure boost under a newly released development plan. Chief executive Terry O’Connor said some works are already underway. “For our stakeholders, the Port Development Plan 2016 represents a long term vision that has been developed with their business in mind and we look forward to ongoing partnerships well into the future,” he said.
“Darwin Port is well positioned for the future, with strong prospects and clear certainty to become a major logistics hub, servicing the growth and development needs of Northern Australia and beyond.
“To realise this, we’ve adopted a broad vision for the future. The Port Development Plan 2016 represents a clear strategy designed to inform the Territory, port stakeholders and the wider community about the development vision for the port precincts within the Port of Darwin.” The quay line is about 800m now. A study considered an extension of the current quay line by 1km to meet future increases in cargo volumes in the areas of dry bulk exports, liquid bulk imports, live cattle and general cargo, and how this would impact the overall layout of East Arm Wharf.
