Footwear traders demand withdrawal of newly issued valuation ruling on imported shoes

KARACHI: The Pakistan Footwear Traders Association has asked the Director General Customs Valuation to withdraw the valuation ruling on the imported shoes.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Pakistan Footwear Traders Association President Muhammad Sajid said that 300 percent increase in duty on the imported shoes was unacceptable.

He said that after the increase of 300 percent duty, the price of Rs 40 slipper will increase up to Rs 240 whereas more than 300 containers of the imported shoes are stuck at Karachi Port after the decision.

Muhammad Sajid also said that the customs officers suddenly passed the SRO on the 300 percent increase on the imported shoes without consulting and taking the traders and stakeholder into the confidence.

Pakistan Footwear Traders Association said that due to increased duty the smuggling will touch the sky and the importers as well as traders will face heavy loss. The association demanded the government and the higher authorities of the customs to cancel the current valuation ruling of the imported shows.
