TAIWAN: The largest shipper, Evergreen Marine said it has signed agreements with France-based CMA CGM and UAE-based Emirates Shipping Line that it will expand its Asia-East Africa shipment services by working with its French and United Arab Emirates (UAE) counterparts to provide its clients with better services. The new services are scheduled to take effect in December.
After the shipping capacity expansion, Evergreen Marine said it will raise the number of its Asia-East Africa shipments from one to two per week. One of the two trips will stop at Mombasa in Kenya and the other in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
The adjustments in its Asia-East Africa shipping services are expected to lower the impact of port congestion in East Africa, which could improve the operations of the route, Evergreen Marine said.
The first of the two weekly shipping journeys starts from Port Klang in Malaysia, moves to Tanjung Pelepas, also in Malaysia, then on to Singapore, Colombo in Sri Lanka, finally making port in Mombasa. Then it will return to Port Klang.
Evergreen Marine said that the first route will be served by five 2,500-2,800 twenty-foot-equipment units (TEUs) vessels. Three are from Evergreen Marine, one from China-based COSCO Group, and one from Singapore-based X-Press Feeders.
The second route begins in Singapore and heads to Tanjung Pelepas, Port Klang, Colombo and Dar-es-Salaam before returning to Singapore, Evergreen Marine said.
The Taiwanese shipper said the second route will be served by six 2,500-2,800 TEU vessels, four from CMA CGM and two from Emirates Shipping Line.
The company said that during the two weekly trips, its clients will be able to gain access to the shipper’s global shipment network in Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas and Colombo to send their cargo to port in other countries and regions, including Europe, the Caribbean, Japan, South Korea and China.
