KARACHI: A prominent leader of Karachi’s business community, Siraj Kassim Teli, has rejected the federal budget presented by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and termed it a pro-agricultural budget.
Talking to Customs Today at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Teli said that the federal budget was totally an anti-people budget as there is no relief has been provided to the masses. Teli further termed the budget a “political one” and preparation for the next elections.
He regretted that the federal government has once again increased the tax burden on taxpayers and not to take any initiative to increase the tax net.
He further said that the federal government has increased the indirect taxes in the budget which would definitely increase the inflation.
Teli requested the finance minister and authorities concerned of Federal Board of Revenue-FBR to review the records of revenue cases which are in pending in different courts of law, as those cases have been doubled in numbers during the last four years.
On the occasion, Teli further advised that the federal government should shift the tax collection system of FBR on IT basis, so that tax could be collected transparently
