Govt allocates over Rs1.1b for IT, telecom sector

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has earmarked Rs 1.109 billion for IT and telecom sector to complete 11 ongoing schemes and to start three new schemes during the fiscal year 2016-17.

According to the budget document, Rs50 million would be the foreign assistance for the project. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs4340 million out of which Rs3689m would be foreign assistance (China). It is worth mentioning that SCO deposits all profit in national exchequer.

The project was approved from CDWP in 2009 and total cost has been calculated at Rs459 million, while Rs270 million have been spent on the project so far. Three new schemes have been allocated Rs.211 million despite the fact that their status is unapproved yet.

State Minister Anusha Rehman has been taking credit of working on establishing technology parks across the country but in documents the status of the Islamabad Technology Park is still unapproved.
