Russia to invest $1.5bln in Kyrgyz gas pipelines

MOSCOW: Russian gas giant Gazprom is set to invest 100 billion rubles ($1.5 billion) in Kyrgyzstan’s gas pipelines by 2030, the Interfax news agency reported Monday.

One third of the 100 billion would be invested within the next two years in a significant boost to the Kyrgyzstan’s gas infrastructure, said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, following high-level talks in the country’s capital of Bishkek.

Alexei Miller, head of the Russian state energy company Gazprom, said earlier this year that the company was planning to invest more than $758 million into different projects in Kyrgyzstan. The move was hoped to increase Kyrgyzstan’s access to gas from 20 percent of the country to 60 percent, the Vedomosti newspaper reported.
