Tax evasion: Customs Court extends physical remand of suspect

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has once again approved physical remand of an alleged tax evader and handed him over to the investigation team.

A suspect, Manzoor Ahmad, who owned a textile factory on Raiwind Road, has been charged for tax evasion. He had allegedly filed wrong tax returns and statements for evading Rs 80 million in wake of sales tax during 2013-2014.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Inland Revenue (IR) registered a case against him under Pakistan Sales Tax Act and arrested him for further interrogation.

Later, the accused was presented before the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan seeking his physical remand. On request, the Customs Court approved his physical remand for three days, which has now been extended.
