Customs Court sends Omani citizen on remand in money laundering case

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a 14-day judicial remand of an Omani citizen allegedly involved in currency smuggling.

The staff of Customs Preventive deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport intercepted an Omani national named Nasir Saeed Al Khroosi and recovered 50,000 UAE dirham and 25,000 Omani riyals from his possession. The officials arrested the accused on currency smuggling charges. The accused person was traveling from Lahore to Muscat.

Later, he was produced before the court of Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan who sent him on physical remand for two days.

After completion of physical remand, the customs investigation team again presented him before the court where he was sent to jail on judicial remand for further prosecution.

According to Pakistani law, only $10,000 or any other foreign currency equal to $10,000 can be taken by an international passenger while traveling out of Pakistan. In case the amount is more than the allowed, it would be considered as money laundering.
