KARACHI: Customs Enforcement-South Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar has called a meeting of the collectorates, including Gwadar, Quetta and Preventive after the tension arose at Pak-Afghan border near Torkham.

During the meeting, the chief collector asked the collectorates, particularly the Quetta Customs, to ensure strict surveillance and vigilance at the check posts of the Pakistan Customs established on the Pak-Afghan border.

Sources informed Customs Today that the chief collector also asked the authorities concerned to be more vigilant on the border, adding that the chief collector also hinted at discussing the security issues with high ups of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Zahid Khokhar further asked that the Quetta Customs collector to apprise the strength of the officials who are deployed at the different customs check posts in the jurisdiction.

The sources further informed this scribe that the chief collector will go to Islamabad in few days in order to meet the FBR high ups in connection with the recent situation erupted at the Pak-Afghan Border.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Federal Government and Pakistan Army have decided to construct a gate-way at Pak-Afghan Border near Torkham for more security checks, as the security agencies have confirmed information that the smuggling of contraband items would be made through this route, adding that the terrorists were also using that specific path to enter into the country easily.

The check posts of all security agencies of Pakistan would be constructed at that gate and the officials and officers would also conduct thorough surveillance at that Pak-Afghan route.
