Customs Court approves physical remand of two cell phones’ smugglers

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a four-day physical remand of two suspects involved in mobile phones smuggling case.

According to the details, Special Judge Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan handed over two suspects, Zahid Iqbal and Shakeel Sultan, to the Faisalabad Investigation and Prosecution team for interrogation.

Both accused were arrested by the customs authorities during an action here at the Faisalabad International Airport. Both were coming from Dubai to Faisalabad through a private airline FZ 343 when they were intercepted for checking of luggage.

During checking, the customs officials found 196 costly mobile phones from their bags that were concealed in the luggage artistically. Mobile phones of different companies’ including apple, Samsung and other brands were recovered from their possession. The officials arrested them and registered a case under Pakistan Customs Act, 1969.

The investigation team presented them before the Customs Court and asked the court to send the accused persons on 14 days physical remand. The officials further argued that the department wanted to investigate the case deeply as the culprits were involved in smuggling of cell phones since long which were supplied in local markets. They furthers said that investigation was required to trace the network of smugglers.

Customs court after hearing the arguments granted four days physical remands of both accused and handover them to customs investigation and prosecution team.

They will be presented before the court after completion of physical remand for further prosecution.
